Aletheia has been teaching the piano since 2012. Since then, she has taught hundreds of students from beginner to advanced levels in group and individual settings.
She prepares her students for ABRSM exams up to Diploma levels, but her lessons are not confined to exam pieces. She believes in exposing her students to a wide range of repertoire of different time periods for a holistic music education. She also understands the need at times to motivate her students by playing pieces outside of the classical syllabus. Her ability to play by ear then often comes in handy for transcribing her students’ favourite songs tailored to their level. In this way, she empowers her students to play their favourite songs at whatever level they are at, thereby sustaining their interest in their learning journey. Having taught a spectrum of students from beginner to advanced levels, she understands that each one is an individual and is committed to bring out the best of each student under her charge, through cultivating a life-long enjoyment of music. She also believes that having students join recitals and competitions on top of preparing for exams is a powerful way to sustain their discipline and drive as well as confidence in piano learning and performance.
She obtained her Bachelor in Music (Honours) from Royal College of Music in 2014 and Masters in Music from Southern Illinois University (Carbondale) in 2020, majoring in Piano Performance for both. She has performed solo, accompaniment and chamber music in various concert venues in the United States, United Kingdom and Singapore. She has also judged piano competitions both in the United States and in Singapore.

Samuel has been teaching piano throughout University. His teaching experience is mainly with kids, either in group settings or 1 to 1. Of course he is also competent with all other students. He has a thorough musical background, being in choir in his secondary school days (section leader), and a keyboardist later on in JC. Samuel has also performed several times in weddings, band performances, and even online.
He has a very strong talent in improvisations that is part of his skill set he can utilise. Through his past experiences, Samuel believes that lessons should have an optimal balance of fun and practical learning. Too much fun is just impractical and too much practical learning may bore the student and end up being ineffective. He also has other teaching experience in classroom settings in other topics and on improvisation.

Music is Maurice’s passion and it is a joy when he is able to nurture the appreciation and sensitivity of music in others. He began his journey in music as an adult beginner and obtained ABRSM Grade 8 with distinction in just one and a half years of committed learning and practice.
Having had this experience, Maurice has specialised himself into intelligently and effectively teaching youths and adult beginners to be able to progress at an accelerated pace. In his teaching, he takes emphasis in simplifying musical concepts and breaking down the complexities of piano technique into bite size bits, which serve as enablers to facilitate the creation of a positive learning cycle through the students development of competencies and confidence. With the employment of an effective practice routine that Maurice has developed over the years, many of his beginner students have been able to start playing the pieces they like after just a few lessons.
Teaching music through pieces that his students are enthusiastic about is quintessential to Maurice’s approach as he has found this to be an effective way to maintain their interest that has often been spoiled by rigid and strict methodologies. Through this, the lessons remain student-centric and always has a higher chance of being a good and lasting match.

Soh Yian is a piano teacher with twenty years of teaching experience. Although graduated with a Computer Science Degree from the National University of Singapore in 1990, she answered her musical calling by becoming a full time music teacher from 1994. She has since trained more than 50 students including several at Diploma level. Soh Yian also serves in church as pianist and keyboardist.
Soh Yian believes that music is a gift bestowed to all. Everyone can make music, with practice and training, we can enjoy music to its highest level. As a teacher, Soh Yian aims to perpetuate knowledge and inspire learning. More specifically, she teach a wide repertoire of musical works of various genres and styles. Soh Yian also creates performing opportunities for her students. Through home concerts and recitals, students will gain confidence and derive pleasure in music making.
Soh Yian recognizes that examinations provide useful standard and can act as a motivating push, giving the student a definite aim to work towards. However music-teaching is not simply preparing students for one exam after another- and nothing else. A good balance between solid music education of wide repertoire and pursuit of excellence through examinations must be attained.

Charmaine has taught students ranging from 3 to 6 years old, some whom have a short concentration span. She managed to increase their attention span by using a variety of methods. To begin with, she will speak to them individually at eye-level in a gentle tone and give them stickers. Such methods have made most of her students more cooperative. Then, Charmaine would paste letter stickers on the piano keys to help students identify the positions of the notes easily.
From her experience, being a piano teacher can be tremendously rewarding and fulfilling. As the saying goes, “Teaching begins in the heart of a passionate educator”. The art of guiding a student on a journey is one that comes naturally to some, but can certainly be learned by others who have the right skills.

Edwin has been teaching since 2007. His youngest student is 5 year old and oldest is 70+ years old. He teaches on a custom grand piano made for identifying playing errors and for improvement. Edwin also advocates for a better knowledge over “just the paper” achievements to further build a better future for the music culture in Singapore. As such, his students usually learn more than one instrument other than the piano as their main.
Edwin’s teaching focuses on the core of music, instead of just the instrument. The core, being the identity of music to the player, what and where the player feels and sees oneself in music. He believes each player has their own pace and should progress in their own time, and each musician should learn what they like and loves to do.
